Abstract

Regulation of the movement of persons in border areas is essential for safeguarding state sovereignty while supporting the socio-economic interaction of cross-border communities. This study analyzes the role of Indonesian legislation in regulating human mobility in border areas. It employs a normative juridical approach through an analysis of laws and regulations and relevant literature. The findings indicate that Indonesia has a relatively comprehensive legislative framework, but implementation challenges remain, particularly regarding inter-agency coordination and the social conditions of border communities. International agreements governing traditional border crossers must also account for the continuing cultural ties and social relations among communities in state border areas.
